Fuel Storage
- A complete hazard assessment has been undertaken as part of the EIS. The proposed diesel fuel tank will be inside a reinforced concrete chamber below the hardstand and has been approved by a hazard assessment expert. Diesel cannot ignite, so is much safer than other fuels.
- All pumpout and fueling facilities will be operated by trained marina staff and environmental management plans have been drafted for these procedures.
- The upgrade in storage will have the following benefits:
- Provide adequate capacity for larger vessels and the public;
- Flexibility in delivery timing and frequency (limiting the frequency of tanker delivery).
- Marina Fuel Storage at other Marinas is of similar size
| Marina | Location | Date Installed | Capacity (Litres) |
| Rushcutters Bay | Sydney Harbour | 1976 | 60,000 |
| The Spit | Middle Harbour | 1982 | 40,000 |
| Akuna Bay | Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park | 1986 | 75,000 |
| Nelson Bay | Port Stephens | 1988 | 60,000 |
- The final decision of the fuel storage issue was driven by issues such as demand, environmental and hazardous materials storage regulations, issues relating to delivery by road tankers and the ability to locate fuel storage tanks on site.
- After considering these alternatives the current proposal was considered to be the best alternative to deliver the best outcomes in these areas of consideration.
